Our client, a leader in the corrugated packaging industry is presently seeking candidates for a full-time experienced outside Sales Representative for their location in the Detroit (Michigan) area. The Sales Representative will prospect, develop new business, and use a consultative sales approach in an assigned territory to sell corrugated packaging. The position will report to the plant Sales Manager. The Sales Representative will be traveling daily by car calling on prospective and current customers. The Sales Representative will be traveling to the plant on a regular basis and may also make trips to other company- owned plants.

The primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Establishing relationships with new customers and securing contracts with new customers to achieve assigned sales quotas and targets.

  • Prospecting for potential customers using various direct methods such as calling and face to face meetings, and indirect methods such as networking, business directories, trade shows, industry ads and other sources.

  • Qualifying prospects against company criteria.

  • Providing solutions to customers and potential customers about their business challenges.

  • Partnering closely with Sales Manager & General Manager to establish new target accounts.

  • Working with Plant Designers, Customer Service, Production, Shipping, and other internal departments as an effective team member to create packaging solutions that fit the needs of the customer and the manufacturing capabilities of the Plant.

  • Providing management with regular updates and reports on sales activities.

  • Effectively communicating with Customer Service regarding customer requirements and special needs and to offer world class service to customers on every order placed.

  • Traveling throughout assigned territory to call on regular and prospective customers to solicit orders and to assure continued profitability and growth of existing accounts.

  • Be a positive representative of the company.

The ideal candidate will present the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred. Minimum: completed high school diploma/G.E.D.

  • Manufacturing environment experience preferred.

  • Corrugated packaging sales experience preferred; but will consider candidates who are top performers in other industries with successful work histories. 3-5 years technical sales preferred.

  • Clean driving record and valid driver’s license required as well as insurability consistent with the requirements of the Company held insurance policy.

  • Microsoft Office/computer proficiency.

  • Self-starter, driven, competitive, optimistic, confident.

  • Ability to establish relationships and build rapport. Desire to network.

  • Social and web savvy – ability to use these tools to uncover and engage with qualified prospects.

  • Innovative – always looking for creative methods to be successful in their job.

  • Strong desire to succeed and be rewarded for hard work and determination.

Base salary: $100,000 per year
